Who is Edvard Grieg?

Edvard Hagerup Grieg(1843-1907)

E.Grieg was born in Bergen.Norway on15th.June in 1843. His mother was a pianist. When he was 15years old, he enrolled Leipzip Music Conservatory on the recommendation of Ole Bull who was one of distant relatives and was a violinist with a touch of Paganini’s wizardry and also a composer.
In 1867,E.Grieg got married with Nina Hagerup who was a singer and his cousin. Their daughter, Alexandra was born. In the same year, E.Grieg composed his brilliant piano concerto in a minor Op.16,and the year was at top of his happiness. He was also an excellent pianist and performed at lots of concerts in the world throughout his life.Futhermore he established a present Music Academy in Oslo, and served the presidential post of Orchestra in Bergen as well.
On the other side,he gradually seeked for his own music into Norwegian folk music or oral music in the process of compose.Especially the entitle《Slåtter Op.72》which he arranged for the piano using Hardanger fiddle music was valuable of artistic. He had a strong sense of justice and a humanitarian in the accordance with his words=Man må først være menneske. All sann kunst vokser ut av det menneskelige》’All men must first be a human being. All of the true art is born from humanistic things’.
E.Grieg died in Bergen,1907 when he was 64years old. He and his wife,Nina’s cemetery now rest in a grotto in the cliff face at Troldhaugen.
